Day 96: Skagway, Alaska, 12th of June, 2009

I am still working on posting photos of all of my Cruise with the Dailylife Wife.  Here is Skagway, and a trip on the White Pass and Yukon Railway.  (You can click on the Alaskan Cruise 2009! Category to the right, to see all of the related posts, or go the Beginning of the Cruise by clicking here.)

The train was waiting when we docked that morning…other than engines, of course.

We had to wait a while before we could leave the ship.

The ships’ crew have made a tradition of listing retiring Captains and special visits on the rock wall just over the tracks from the dock.

Looking over the Ship’s bow we can see Skagway.  It was a dark and dreary day.

Not too crowded, but every car ended up 1/3 to 1/2 full.

Real heat!  And it was needed, too.

And just in case…

Moving at last!  Her is the Island Princess’ bow.

Rusting in the woods.  Better than the Denver and Rio Grande’s burning all of their narrow gauge equipment in a giant funeral pyre one night…

A quick view of the WP&YR yard.

The main engine house, with two diesel engines, and a lowboy flat car.

The rest of No. 73, above, getting her steam up.

Another steam engine and short train in static display…and in bad need of restoration…

This one is in worse shape than the one in the forest!

More to come!
