The existing section of the Kettle Valley Railway is in the northern Okanogan, a valley of incredible fruit and vegetable growing potential, and it is well used! It starts down south in Washington State, and runs north through Osoyoos, BC to just north of Summerland, where the KVR is. We started at the Station on the left side of this photo, behind the belt of trees.  We then ran around the left side through the forest and beside the orchards.
Here is a bit of the track at the site of an old railyard, and current grade crossing.
An old farm impliment, artfully left beside the rails…
One of the many, many apple orchards we passed.
Many of the old orchards and fields are turning into vineyards. You can see the clusters of grapes if you click on the photo. BACK to return!
Every good Vineyard has a name…
…and tasting room!
Here is a map of the Kettle Valley Railway when it was a full, complete railroad, and not a tourist train. It started in Castlegar, on the right side, then went south and west and north and south and…there were a lot of trestles and tunnels and fantastic views, and other stuff that didn’t make money for the railroads. Most of the track was torn up in the 1980’s, and the right of way is now bike trails.
That little bit of yellow to the left of center is all that is left:Â the KVR we rode.
