An under-publicised Lunar Eclipse took place the morning of 10 Dec 11. It was visible in most of the western US and Canada. It started about 4:40am, and was total by about 7:35am. The Moon set officially at 8:04am; Sunrise was 8:02am. This one was different in that it happened just at Sunrise. You didn’t have to stay up all night to see it! I took these out by Robyn’s horse trailer.

Because the moon was nearing the horizon, the viewing was not very good, and none of the images were very sharp. As the Moon dropped down farther and farther it got into the haze and thick atmosphere, and because it was already pretty dim due to the eclipse, if faded from view long before it dropped below the horizon.

I played around with this one, brightening the colors and using a filter called Ocean Ripple.

Stay tuned for the next Eclipse, coming to a Moon near You in 2014!
