Of course, more waterfalls!
Another view:
There isn’t much to do in Hana…it is just a great, friendly, remote place to live. Â The road in was a burro trail until WWII. Â It wasn’t paved until the 1970’s, and then only as one lane most of the time. Â We had lunch at a nice gift shop that was one of the few licensed food places in town!
The Dailylife Wife and I were watching a red cardinal flitting about, but never got a good photo. Â In the middle of this mess, however, I did get a good photo of…
(A 100% crop! Â A 17-40mm wideangle zoom is NOT a good birding lens!)
Next we stopped at the Seven Sacred Pools in the Haleakala National Park. Â The sacred pools were an early advertising bit.
It was a nice place, and I am sure in the sunshine, with a bit less rain water flowing in the river, it is quite lovely. Â Swimming isa possible…but not today!
Too full for much Pool stuff. Â Then it was hurry through the woods and back to the bus!
Once again, great scenery and beaches; that is the road we are on…
Looking the other way doesn’t help…I was starting to wonder…
But at last we broke out of the rain side of the coast and into a drier stretch. Â The local volcano!
The land smooths out and becomes gentler. Â It used to be forested, but cows came in and killed the young trees, turning it into a bit of a desert.
It didn’t matter to the road: still mostly one lane, but with better pavement! Â The ride to Hala took almost two hours of just drive time to go 41 miles, and some of that was on good road before we got to the Hala road. Â We continued on around this end of the island. Â It was drier…
We finally stopped at the Ulupalakua Ranch for wine tasting. Â We found some great wine, but they can’t ship to /\/\onTana! {=-{<
A Cook’s Pine. Â Captain Cook planted these pines all over the Pacific to insure spare masts and spars for damaged ships.
It was a pleasant end to a long day.
Then back on the Boat, a surprise! Â A bunny on the bed!
So ends our delightful day on Maui!
