Day 188

I have the fort part almost done.

Day1318801

(All photos by Nikon Coolpix P7100)

I got Toots’ rock wall up.  She helped!

Day1318802

Lugnut’s door is on, with only minor major trouble.  I got the side pieces bolted to the wrong side of those short cross pieces you can see on each side of the door.  The boards are suppose to be on the outside.  It is not really clear in the instructions.  So I got one changed and one of the bolts in the other side stripped its head.  And the first side did the same thing when I tried to put it back.

Day1318803

They are the uprights with the single bolt through the short horizontal board.  I couldn’t get my hacksaw to it to cut, but it is a soft cedar…I was eventually able to rip the bolt through the wood with minimal collateral damage.  Then drill a new hole and try it again!  The door itself has the screw holes for the hinges too close to the edge.  I had to redrill some of them, and double drill the remaining ones to keep the wood from splitting.

This is the view with the door open.

Day1318804

A view of things currently.   The slide will come off of the open space on the right end of the upper deck.

Day1318805

A better view of the table and downstairs “room”.

Day1318806

And a final view from the opposite side.  The slide will go off of the left side on this end.

Day1318807

The slide and some railings are all that are left.  There are two starburst inserts for the sides that are open under the roof.  I am leaving them off so the kids can see out better.  Then it is on to the swings!
