Day 12: A Flashback!

It is hard to believe that two months ago we were on Kaua’i.  The warm, tropic breezes are in distinct contrast to the 50-70 MPH winds here, although with daytime temperatures around 50F it seems pretty tropical compared to the -20s and lower temps from a couple of weeks ago.

While the scene in general is low light/long exposure, the bright part to the left side was our model, using a flashlight to illuminate the cave and avoid the giant roaches.  This is a technique called Light Painting.  In this 20 second exposure you can see where the water turned to mist from its movement, but the cave is bright and sharp due to the high intensity of the flashlight.

A more general view of the cove where we were wring in Lihue.  This is a 30 second exposure, with almost all of the light coming form the Moon, which was behind all of those clouds.  If you click on the photo to enlarge it you will see how the long exposure has again turned the ocean waves along the shore into a mist due to its movement.

(On the right side of the photo you can see the light of a fishing boat, and lighthouse, and an airplane landing at the airport.  It is easiest to see enlarged.)
