A Waterfowl Special!

(I got way ahead with all of the Hawai’i photos, so I am running a few nice ones I have taken without a day tag.  I will resume regally scheduled and dated posts a few days closer to Christmas.) A Common Goldeney on ice. (1/1000s f/5.6 ISO320 244mm Canon 7D) A closer view… (1/1000s f/5.6 […]

A Moonrise Special!

It was cold (really cold!) and the sky was clear.  I was able to catch the Moonrise over the Highwoods.  Note the lack of clarity: the cold sky, especially by the horizon, is unsettled air and not particularly good to photograph through.  The bottom is just cut off by the skyline. A few minutes later […]

Day 357: From Hawai’i to the Deep Freeze

After our warm trip to Hawai’i it was interesting to return to /\/\onTana! and have the bottom fall out of the thermometer!  -33F before the wind got involved.  So here are two photos from down by the river and one from the backyard. A Common Goldeneye. (1/750s f/8.0 ISO125 100mm -1/2 stop Canon 7D) Warning […]

Day 356

We got to spend two days running around Seattle and Tacoma with the Dailylife Daughter #2, culminating in a really nice meal in a converted firehouse. (All P7100) Then it was back on the road and home again, ending this year’s Hawaiian Adventure. Now we return to your regularly scheduled Blog! ~Curtis, home again in […]

Day 355: Flying Homewards…

At last our vacation was coming to a close.  A last goodbye to our digs! (All Nikon P7100…except a couple…) A quick trip through TSA was marred only by them not being able to read my delaminated and faded drivers license…we didn’t have to take our shoes off.  We were pre-approved!  Then a quick flight […]

Day 354: Our last full day on Kaua’i…

We were hoping to see some whales.  The Mellon Head Whales (a type of dolphin) I almost got a photo of on the Dinner Cruise don’t count.  The Spinner Dolphins I saw from the Lighthouse don’t count because, well, they are dolphins.  And the photos didn’t turn out. It is a >>long<< ways down to […]

Day 353: Our last full day on Kaua’i…

After lunch we went back to the KÄ«lauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.  We do like it there! (Canon 7D) It is a great place to watch birds! I think they think they are Eagles.  I have photos from a couple years ago of Eagles fighting in the air like that. Then the ship we took last […]

Day 352: Our last full day on Kaua’i…

We went to Wailua Falls next, just a few miles outside of Lihue.  The weather was getting nicer, and it was a narrow, winding road. (Nikon Coolpix P7100) Wailua Falls. A five photo panorama! Local flora. * My last phot of the falls.  Note the rainbow on the right side of the pool. I took […]

Day 351: Our last full day on Kaua’i…

We decided to visit some waterfalls on our last day.  The first was Opaeka‘a Falls.  We visited there briefly last year on our cruise. (Canon 7D) Around this area there were a could of white-tailed tropic birds flying. * It is that little white speck… About this time my camera started acting up. The exposure compensation […]

Day 350: Cap’t Andy’s Sunset Dinner Cruise, Part 6!

The Evening Star is up there if you click on the photo. (All Canon 7D) The Chef smoozes with the passengers. Port Allen. The Dailylife Wife is still on the bridge.  Pretty much the best view. Watching the Port come closer. There is that Evening Star again! *** *** The line to the Tip Jar! […]
