Next we went to the Glacier Botanical Gardens. Â This was a landslide a guy named Steve recreated into a Botanical Garden to reclaim the area and prevent another slide!
Besides being very lush and colorful (and wet…), Steve had another great idea! Â He takes trees, with roots still attached, and plants them in the ground upside-down. Â The he plants flowers in the roots.
It is a neat idea, and works very well.
Lots of flowers on the ground, too.

Now part of the tour of the Garden is a ride to the lookout on top of the slide area. Â They have these Clubman 12 passenger golf carts geared way, way down and they crawl up this steep road they made to the overlook. Â Here is how steep the road is, all the way up!
On the far right side is a corner. It is a “post road” corner. Â They laid out tree trunks and then buried them in dirt. Â This used to be a common road making method, pre-pavement.
And a look down from that corner. Â Great Fun!
There is a boardwalk at the top for the overlook. Â The Dailylife Wife is in the center with the white hat.
Looking North over the Juneau Airport we see Sunshine!
Southward we see Juneau, still in the rain.
And if you look a little closer…
…closer still…you can see our ship. Â Well, the Grande Princess. Â We were just behind her to the left.
Of course, it being a Garden, more flowers!
And a pond!

The Greenhouse/Gift Shop/Snack Bar was colorful, too!
And the Dailylife Wife’s favorite:
One last upside-down tree…
And then on to the bus and Mendenhall Glacier!
