The next day of the cruise we headed up Tracy Arm, a 20 some mile long fjord up to Sawyer Glacier!
“What do you mean, inside down? Â It was the right way in the camera…”
It was a foggy morning. Â Apparently we missed a bunch of whales by not being up at 4:30am…althought the Dailylife Wife saw one briefly out our stateroom window.
It was a bit brisk, too.
There she blows! Â One, two, three, four, and a tail! Â (You can just see the first blow on the far right side…)
There’s another humpback!

The terminal moraine of Sawyer Glacier, a couple hundred years ago…it retreated before Global Warming even started! Â How prescient! Â I think they dredged beside it…we went awfully close…
Better,,,
but still a lot of fog.
Here come the icebergs!
The bigger ones were very blue.
It comes from the ice being very dense without a lot of air bubbles in it.
The MS Amsterdam is a good sized ship. Â There were around 3000 passengers and crew.
So here we are winding our way up this relatively narrow fjord…
One of those special moving pictures! Â It looks a little better if you click on it to see it by itself.
There were other boats and ships too. Â The big ships mostly were in the afternoon.
I like this one. Â It is the right size for my runabout after my lottery ticket comes in! Â {!-{P
At long last, Sawyer Glacier!
Here is a bit better view. Â For some reason the Captain didn’t want to get into the icebergs…
So after he spun the ship around a few times (gotta love those bow trusters!) we headed back down Tracy Arm. Â They may close Tracy Arm to big ships in the next year or two, so we were lucky to get up here and see it in comfort.
The other photographer on the expedition…

This couple was photo-happy too!
Just about the last view of the Arm.
Then suddenly: Bears!
Spotted by the Dailylife Wife!
More to come!
