Day 202

These are my photos (in this and the next post) from Thursday night’s Camera Club outing to Gibson Park here in Great Falls. Except for two, I used only vintage lenses; they are lenses that we used long ago with film cameras, that have generally passed out of use (and any real value on eBay!), but they still work (manually only) and can provide wonderful results if you work with them. The biggest draw back is that most digital cameras are not set up to manually focus without a lot of work. {!-{>

This was taken with a Sears 135mm f2.8 Pentax-K mount lens. I had to work on the flower a bit to get some detail, but Man! Look at the Bohke! {!-{>

Sears 135mm f2.8 Pentax-K mount lens. This lens went with a Sears 35mm SLR that actually was made by Pentax, I think, hence the mount. The lens was probably made in the late 1970s by Soligor, a prominent 3rd party lens maker at the time.

Sears 135mm f2.8 Pentax-K mount lens. Sears, as well as other retailers, would have name-brand cameras, usually the lower end ones to be affordable, rebranded to their name. So you could potentially have Sears cameras in several different, and completely incompatible, lens mounts! And when you found a lens you wanted marked Sears you had to make sure it would fit your camera…

This image was processed with the “auto smart fix” in Adobe Elements.

This is that same photo but I was trying to change it to b&w, using the built in software in Elements. This is a simulated infra-red.

B&W conversion: Portrait.

B&W conversion: Urban. A pretty subtle difference between the two

B&W conversion: Vivid.

My original editing of the image, before I did the auto smart fix.
