Day 78

It was with great sadness that today I learned of the passing of my old partner, David Doland. He and I worked together for 22 years conducting background checks for the Department of Defense, and then the whole Government. He always had a wry, acerbic wit that was always good to lighten things up. We weren’t close outside of work; I doubt I saw him much more than five times after after he retired. He was retired disabled Vietnam Vet, and never let his “disability” slow him down. He would refuse a meal if rice was served with it: his last bowl of rice, he said, was moving when he ate it. The notice said he died of natural causes while on vacation in New Mexico. I think the World is a little less without him.

I can’t find the photo of him I wanted to post: I had only been tripping over it for the last three or four years, so it is now invisible! So here are some from past posts.

From when I was running the Pacific NW Regional website. (He’s the guy with the hair!)

From Dave’s Retirement in 2009. The guy in the middle was our first boss, Vance Curtiss.

From My retirement in 2014.

Rest In Peace, Dave.
