In planning this day had bothered me a bit because the road I wanted to take didn’t have gas pumps for 213 miles…not bad in a car, but a little beyond the normal range of my GoldWing. Â I decided I could do it if I kept it at 55mph. Â My mileage goes way up at 55, as it was the designed speed for my 1995 bike. Â If you recall, all of the roads were 55mph back then.
The first 90 miles or so looked like it was going to rain, but by the time I reached Lakeview, OR, my jumping off point for the dry leg, it was looking a little better. Â I stopped for breakfast and had the saltiest ham and cheese omelet I have ever had! Â Still pretty good.
At the restaurant in Lakeview.
This was an interesting gas stop, too. Â The lock in my gas tank lid self destructed. Â Strange. Â It was still overcast as I set out on my dry leg.
As it cleared up the country got more remote. Â If you can see a diagonal line on that hill ahead, rising from left to right, that is my road, OR 140.
This is going up that line.
And this is looking back the way I came. Â Not even an old abandoned ranch house!
At the top of the hill it becomes NV 140.
Pretty much the same scenery.

A variation on the scenery!
As I said, 55mph and keep moving on…
A three photo panorama of when I finally was approaching Winnemucca!
Then it was an easy 150 miles or so down the Interstate to Wells!
The only downside was a constant barrage of billboards advertising a prime rib dinner at a Casino.  But it wasn’t in Wells…Pretty clouds, anyway.
