Day 73: Warm up the Wayback Machine, Sherman!

(February, 2009) Let’s jump back a little over a year, to my visit to the beach the day after my trip into the Dolomite Mountains to Cortina, Italy.  This is on the way to Caorle, a beach resort…but not in February…

It was a cold and rainy day.

It got worse as the day went on.  Lots of little narrow roads before I got there.  Sarah Jane, my omnipotent GPS, was very helpful.  That’s her in suction cupped to the windshield.

Eventually I reached Caorle, a beach resrt town, with a fishing history.  The canal through town was full of boats.  More later…

After drivng around and around, and seeing part of the waterfront/harbor, and some interesting apartment buildings, I found a parking spot (no other cars in it) and made my way between two closed up hotels.

Looking left along the beach.

Looking right along the beach.

Looking at the beach.  Normally (that is, in season) this beach would be full of beach chairs, umbrellas and, I was told, young ladies from Germany.  Hmmm.

Yup, Cait, I can’t get rid of the waterfowl no matter where I go!

If you turn around from where I took the photo above, this is what you see.  The colors are pretty muted here, but I bet in the summer if is pretty bright!  (Click a few times to enlarge it; BACK to return!)

This is what most of the beach, at least near the water, is made up of: billions of seashells.

Here are a few surf photos if anyone needs some ocean based wallpaper.

It was cold and windy when I took these shots.

I had to take these and retreat off the beach while I could still feel my fingers enough to hold the car keys.

I was later told I should have just stuck my fingers in the ocean: it is still 70F with a wind chill below freezing!
